Moringa oleifera has been called many things: the miracle tree, the vitamin tree, nature's multivitamin. For two decades, these superlatives have fueled a booming global market. Yet beneath the glossy packaging and superfood claims lies an uncomfortable truth: most Moringa value chains are fundamentally broken.
They are fragmented, opaque, and leaky. A seed planted by a smallholder farmer in West Africa or South Africa may travel through four or five intermediaries before reaching a European or North American buyer. At each handoff, quality degrades, documentation vanishes, and the farmer's share of the final sale price shrinks to a fraction.
